My positive outlook is that both locomotives are fantastic looking models. Thanks for sharing your well done video.

My negative opinion is that Lionel and MTH should not be going head-to-head with the same products. We could have had another new locomotive on the market instead of two of the same locomotive. Dumb marketing as both companies will have a smaller market share than if the locomotives were different.

Great video Nick. I saw your vid on you tube the other day, MTH is a little bit more detailed, I have a bunch of the MTH ES44AC what I like about the Lionel is the semi fix pilot it make the front look so much better/real looking and the sound set are both good, but I give Lionel this one for the sound it sounds like the real ES44AC that I have seen and heard. I hope Lionel will make some soon in the regular paint scheme of the Big five rail road company's soon like Norfolk Southern & CSX that's what I am waiting for

And the Lionel NS-Heritage ES44s have the nose door on correct right side, the long hood headlights are horizontal (not vertical), the radiator screens are raised, and the vent pattern is correct.  MTH Mike did not retool for the Premier Line but the RK line will be correct looking.

Then the Lionel engines do NOT have long hood ditch lights, not even non-operating and the non-powered units can NOT be gotten with correct prototypical road numbers.

As a BIG MTH fan this is why I did NOT order all 20 as intended.  I have a Lionel NS/NKP coming to run with my 765 Berk.  May buy one and only one MTH SD70 Heritage unit.

Thank so much everyone!  I agree completely with all the comments...this is Why I got both! lol  I figured I had to have the best of both worlds, even though lately I've been more of an MTH fan, I have to say the Lionel version i think Has a slight edge in sound, lighting, fixed pilot & correct tooling.  With that said I do still love Mike's version. I think its detail, edges out Lionel slightly, the paint seems more realistic "not so shiny" and the color looks more correct.  It also runs very well!

Thank you all again very much for the nice complements and video views!

Prototype locomotives are finished in a class A automotive gloss. You may neither like nor prefer a gloss finish, but a high gloss is completely prototypical.

That is a great video comparing the two engines side by side.  What a terrific 'tool' to help one decide which engine to buy. Most of us cannot get both of them.  I agree that the Lionel seems to have a slight edge there and I am an MTH guy.

I love your GP9 at the 'Curve' in the video.  It is so nice to model real scenes. Now all I need is a funnel cake.
