Santa Fe 4-8-4 Northern - The 4-8-4 Northern was arguably the apex of the American steam passenger locomotive, the ultimate combination of power and speed. No wonder that an inordinate number of the engines most renowned among railfans and modelers are 4-8-4s: think Southern Pacific Daylight, Norfolk and Western J, Union Pacific FEF-3, New York Central Niagara, or C&O Greenbrier, for example.       continue reading

EMD SD45 Diesel Locomotive - Like the Pontiac GTO, the SD45 was a mid-60s General Motors muscle car. Stuffed under its brick-like hood was the largest diesel motor made up to that time, a turbo-charged, 20-cylinder, Electro-Motive Division model 645E. Pullman had been making freight cars for more than half a century when it hit a home run with the PS-1. Introduced in 1947, it set the standard for postwar American freight cars.

Hot Metal Car w/Flickering Molten Load-This well-detailed Hot Metal Car features a flickering hot molten load inside the car's barrel that realistically simulates a freshily loaded batch of molten metal from the foundry. The car operates on any O gauge track system powered by any AC or DC transformer.                   continue reading Standard Tank Car - The tank car was relatively uncommon until the 1870s, when the nascent petroleum industry ordered large quantities of metal tanks carried on wooden car bodies. By the early 1900s, a standard design had evolved that lasted throughout the steam and early diesel eras: an 8,000-11,000 gallon metal tank perched on a metal flatcar-like underframe.
