This engine can be run conventionally from a transformer but without either a DCS System or Explorer it cannot be operated in command.  As your shop pointed out, MTH does not operate with Blue Tooth or Legacy so one of the DCS System is your best option. 

As your LHS also told you, MTH has reorganized.  Any "new" from the factory DCS systems are slated to come in next year.  If you want a system sooner you'll have to do some searching and most likely pay more.  Some dealers may have them.  I would start with the forum sponsors.  I suspect the Explorers will be easier to find than a complete DCS system right now at a reasonable price.

In addition to conventional operation (AC or DC), I believe this engine can also be operated via DCC (which is not the same as DCS).

Thanks for the quick replies, that’s good to hear they will be coming out next year with new DCS. I think for now I will just have to settle with conventional as the few explorer models I see are $280. I’ll just have to keep an eye out for a new unit or wait for a new MTH unit to be released.
