Hello everyone-like many of you I am going down my covid-19 train to do list. I bought the Z-4000 used 12 years ago for $250.00 with the broken off power shaft. Never got around to fixing it (don't know how). Would appreciate some thought on this. P>S> I am not a transformer guy so I am nervous about it.

What you want is a duplex female banana plug. But frankly, you don't need it, as all the black posts are tied together inside. Just connect the common to one of the other black posts. BTW, the red side of the broken connector goes to a constant 10V output, with limited current. This is for accessories or lights. You won't be able to run a whole lot on that circuit.

Hi Chris- Thanks for the help. Where do I get the part and how much is it?
Thanks

Glenn,
Do a web search for "duplex female banana plug". You might get lucky and find it locally. Ordering on the web will likely double your cost with shipping.
Just the way thigs are these days.

Thanks Chris. Any ideas how it is installed? (Never done this type of thing).
Go to amazon & search 2 way banana plug
add it to your next order - no shipping cost
As I recall, there are 4 screws accessed from the bottom. They are in pretty deep holes. Don't remember if they are Torx or not. Pull them and the cover lifts straight up. The backing nuts act as a clamp to hold the duplex in place, so you need to loosen them. Check to see how the wires are connected to the duplex. They may be soldered, I don't remember. Whatever MTH did, that's what you do. Swap the part out. You may need to move stuff out of the way to get at things. Assembly is the reverse. Always check for the possibility of pinched wires, although I have not heard of any in this case.

Drop me an email, I have the actual MTH posts for that transformer, might as well put in an exact replacement.
John has you covered with a replacement. But as lehighline said, if it was mine I wouldn't bother. All the blacks are interconnected inside, so you don't need that pin for full operation. Just ground back to any other black connection. That 10 volt output is pretty useless on the Z4000 anyway, there's not much you can do with it. Now if you want to repair it just because, well that's a different story.......

I'm in agreement with the "leave it alone" crowd.
I had to change a red post on mine a few months ago, but it was a track post so it needed to be done. Unless you *Need* the 10V output (I cant think of any reason why, for the reasons pointed out above), then you're risking more by opening it than just letting it be.
Its 6 screws, depending on the age of the transformer the driver you need varies. Mine was torx. Dont pull too hard, as the display panel is wired to the rest of it. You need to undo the wire or carefully move the lid out of the way. Once you get it open, the ring terminals are double nutted on the back of the post. Once you undo the nuts holding the ring terminals, theres one more nut to release the stud from the case. From there, its just reassembly. The space is tight inside the case. Dont drop anything or you'll find yourself doing even more disassembly that you dont want to do. Since the blacks are tied together, just use another post.
