I would like to get one of these but they are rated for O-72 and my widest curve is O-60. Does anyone have this engine to test to know if it'll make it?
It "might" but it won't look good and possibly have issues on switches.
I have a Premier SP AC-6 cab forward with PS3 and a wireless drawbar. It will go around 054 curves and through an 054 switch but it's not happy about it. I tried it on a section of my layout with 054 curves just to see if it would work. I keep it on 072.
I'm not concerned about looks and I don't have any switches. If it makes it, it makes it. My biggest concern is the stress it would put on the wireless drawbar. I've had issues where it messes with the pins and won't make a solid connection anymore. Not really looking for that issue on a $1300 engine.
Try it and see. As long as the connector on the locomotive or tender end of the drawbar aren't jammed all the way to the end of their travel on 060 curves it shouldn't put too much stress on the connector.
Can't speak for the Z-6, but I have a few MTH O-72 listed engines that do O-60 just fine. It's tight, and I wouldn't want to go less than O-60, hence I can see why MTH put O-72 in their listing instead of O-54, but O-60 is doable if you don't highball it.
Makes sense. I feel like it would but am not spending any money until I can have my theory proven. Can anyone out there throw theirs on for a quick test?
