So my Z4000 powers up with track 2 at 6 volts when the handle is in the down/off position. The display reads 6 volts and it is testing out to 6 to 8 volts but it still functions normally. however the fact that it powers up and works tells me maybe the circuit board. Anybody have much experience with these GGG or GRJ?

I think the first step would be to look at the pot on handle 2. It may not be zeroed anymore. Could be a simple adjustment. G
I did, it is zeroed. it even starts up at 6 with the pot unplugged
I,ve worked on tnem as well and you could have leaking fet's in the banks of fet's but could also be the computer control board. I would check the fet's first or if you have the correct board revs and code date on startup . try another board quickest test.
Alan
mine was 01 24
HMMM, leaky FET's, FETs are cheap, boards are not. I have two Z4000's but I bought them almost 3 years apart. This one is the older of the 2.
you have to check the date codes as I indicated earlier if your going to try a board from another transformer, I had checked every fet on the power boards when I worked on mine. good luck!
Alan
PS Digi key electronics sells the fets if needed!
P.S. the tabs on the fet's are isolated for your information
thanks for your help with the tack reader board I got from you
Check the serial number. If starts with 0398 that is first version and 1198 was the second. Can only swap boards in like versions. G
At boot up I get 01 24 on both of my Z4000. My serial number starts out 1208 so I am guessing they both ahve the same board revisions in them. Ill try the comp board in the lid firs since that is the easier of the 2 to tswap then Ill try the power board. Maybe ill just have to change out all the FETs. Ive got a board repair crew at work that ill give beer money to to fix
1208 after 1198 so they are both the second version. Please let us know which board is at fault. G
I wont be able to get to it until next week but I shall let you know what I find
Matt,
Please do, I have Z4K that is 5 Volts off (Low) as per its reading, compared to actual delivery to the tracks. A problem that I just correct mentally as I use it, looks like MTH had some different problems from time to time with their Z4K's.

OK, so i came back to it and its gone. Works just fine. Im not sure what happened
