Just got this idea while reading another post, but it didn't seem like the place to interject.

I live in the Chicago area, and my daughter attends Indiana University in Bloomington. Some how that place that takes $30,000+ a year  has decided her last final finishes at 7pm Friday, and she has to be completely OUT of her dorm room Saturday, 10:00am SHARP .

So ... looks like I am taking Friday off and driving down there, and taking her back that night with the help of my 4Runner and caffeine.

But there is going to be some down time, maybe I could swing over to Mr. Muffin's train shop, is it worth it? The pics on the website certainly look outstanding.

Stopping at Mr Muffin's is a no brainer! I haven't been there myself, I thought I would get there when I went to the NMRA national convention this summer, but plans change, and the trip's off.

While you're in Carmel, if you need food, and want a spectacular burger, Bub's Burgers & Ice Cream is just up the street. My picture might still be on the wall for eating the one pound burger. I've eaten a lot of burgers, and this one stands out in my mind. Sadly, when I was there, I wasn't aware of Mr Muffin's, or I would have been in there in a heartbeat.

YES, it's worth the drive!  It's only a few miles out of your way when driving from Chicago to Bloomington.

Unfortunately, your timing isn't good - they will be at York on April 16.  Otherwise, they run trains every Saturday from 10-3.  It's always a good idea to call first and/or check their Facebook page, as they are sometimes away for vacation, etc.

Hope you can visit when you take your daughter back to IU in the fall.  You can see the layout whenever they're open, but they only run trains on Saturday.

In-state tuition is $10,388; out of state is $24,719 - never cheap to go to a school in a state where you don't reside.  If my son wanted to go to U of I tuition is over 30K since we live in Indiana - add in room and board and both options are pretty pricey.

$30,000 for out of state college costs are pretty good!  Here in Maryland, I think college is reasonable and my daughter's cost is about $26,000 a year (tuition, fees, room, and board) where out of state students pay about $41,000.
