Ok Hello everyone Here are 3 stages of trees that I decided to attempt. I know that I still need practice but here they are. Let me know what you think and what I can do to make them better.

The 1st 4 photos are the 1st attempt (not that good)
Then the 2nd attempt now I need to add some Coarse Turf
then the 3rd attempt needs to be painted brown and some poly fiber put in place

Not bad for 1st try. You might consider increasing the diameter of the tree trunks and maybe teasing out the polyfiber a bit more.

Bulk up your trunks with tape or epoxy putty etc. Pull your fiber out some more....and they will look great!

Scott, they look better than my first try, I must say. The good thing about trees is that you can hardly do it wrong, as there are all shapes of them in nature. Keep at it! 
Yep ! thicker trunks, I really like the ones with no leaves but I'm a little weird. Great start.
Well, you are getting there. I tried that route. I tried "winding" pine trees. I finally decided my best way to "make" trees was to go to work, earn money, and buy them. At least as I did it, it was/is surprisingly difficult to do well, quickly, and very, very messy.

Try a box of super trees and leaf flocking from "Scenic Express". Real easy to use and shape the trees. You also get a real good look at the branch structure. Most hobby store books on scenery have tips on tree making.
The trees you show in the photo as they lack detail are well suited for more background landscape.
