I can make that statement because I purchased that engine.  I am an MTH guy but do buy some of these Legacy engines.  This is a good one.  I read all the bearing posts.  Mike Reagan has spoken on this. I had no issue with my engine.  I have read many nasty comments over the past few days with people bashing the engine.  Some of them are from people who did not buy the engine.

First hand information is the best information.  I pay no attention to people who did not buy the engine.

Forest, I hope you enjoy your engine as much as I enjoy my engine.

opened today.  no problems.  on my web order i had asked Nicholas Smith to check the bearings.  i don't know if they did or not, but there was a little yellow sticker on the boxed marked OK and signed.  i suspect they did.

ran it around a bit and everything worked great.  i like the looks better than the 11212.

interesting difference, the 11212 had four pickups, this one has three.  since it ran over my back to back to back to back switches without a problem, it is apparently no big deal.

have the vision line hudson and one of the reasons i upgraded 765's was for the whistle steam effect.  works great!

having a small train gathering on sunday, the 765 will get some play, for sure.

when they have parts available, i will get another headlight LED and put the MARS front on.

I love mine, too.  Perfect out of the box and in about 24 hours of chuffing away so far.  I thought when I got it it would be just another engine, but its growing on me and is now one of my favorites.  Good whistle, too.

Thanks,

I never thought I'd say this but for me, the sound is one of the most important aspects of my deciding to buy a locomotive. And this locomotive certainly delivers in the sound department! The whistle is one of the best I have heard so far. I'm really glad I got this particular Berk!

Alex, you should really consider getting one if you can find the deal that meets your needs.

Marty,

I call them like I see them.  I was getting tired of reading all the cheap shots that were given the locomotive by people who did not spend the money and buy the locomotive.  If it was not a good locomotive, I am not shy and would be the first one to say so.  This was one I am glad I did not pass on.

Forrest, it is just a standard bright white LED.  If you need the Lionel part number it is available.

I think it's the 620 8312 300 3mm white LED W/O Shoulder. I never found any with the harness. I found that in other recent engines. Also the connector I think I found on DigiKey to be an RH 2 pos 1.5mm. And crimp pins. I took a chance and ordered a few...not totally sure but the have the same shape and dimensions, etc. mite be easier to order another boiler front and try to get the LED out intact with the harness on it.
