Ladies & Gentlemen,
Each year at Christmas time I try to make a purchase from the Weaver Train Company here in Pa.
Most all their Rolling stock is still made by fine craftsmen right here in the USA, and they have something on every level, from build kits to fully built and delivered.  If you can, please purchase something from this great American company, and support our American people.  I own one of the last American made Weaver 0-8-0 Masonic Trains, completely in the USA, a great American product.  I still bleed Red, White & Blue.
Merry Christmas Everybody

the early Williams and Weaver relationship with Samhongsa (Korea) is a good example of what skilled foreign craftsmen can accomplish with the oversight to get it right.  Weaver locomotives continue to be my modern favorites far exceeding any American manufacture of O gauge in cosmetic and mechanical quality.

if you want to see a lot of "made in USA" locomotives, your best bet is to attend a live steam meet...

unfortunately there has been a trend over the past few decades to do away with Industrial Arts classes...

my grandfather was a tool maker who sadly died when i was in my teens.  today i have a lot of experience i can tap for information, but most of those machinists are seniors.  these days it seems education is pointing everyone toward being a rocket scientist and not doing much to support programs that would actually get those rockets built.

i believe the way it works with brass imports, if the majority of the parts are made in the US, but assembled overseas, it can still say it's made in the US.

i'm pretty sure the Weaver plastic molded cars are made and assembled in the US.

I bought my first Weaver car this fall. Not sure what everyone is raving about.

It was tank car. The paint was poorly applied. The lettering was kind of smeared (not crisp like I am used to). The body had shinny rub marks on it from the packaging. The hand railing had fallen apart and needed to be reassembled to the car when I unpacked it. It may have been molded and painted in the USA, but the trucks and couplers are clearly marked made in China. My MTH and Lionel cars are by far better assembled and painted. (and cost less).

PA Public TV did a special on Weaver a couple of years back and all their rolling stock is made locally in the Northumberland, PA area including the injected molded plastic shells. I have stopped by the Weaver Plant in Northumberland and have to tell you something that is missing here and that is the folks that work their are super great people. I have an RPO Car that had a lighting issue and stopped by and they repaired while I waited. SUPER, SUPER people and I don't think there is more that about 15 in the whole place. They are very friendly and if you stop by they will mist likely offer to give you a tour of the place.
