I pulled my father’s pre-war train set from the attic and got it running after a 45 year rest. The track needed cleaning and the locomotive required no effort, but it could use some cleaning and lubrication. I was preparing to sell this set but after enjoying myself immensely on Sunday afternoon I will be keeping it.

Very nice! Isn't it amazing how these old toys manage to still work after nearly a century WITHOUT computers? Cheers to the next hundred years!
Don’t sell it. Lionel JR’s are great.
Very cool. Thanks for sharing.
VERY COOL, indeed! :-)
Pumpkin Farmer: Fantastic! Thanks for sharing and Welcome On Board!
Love the builders plate too! Once upon a time in America: Lionel, Jr. Made in the U.S. of America The Lionel Corporation N.Y. Says it all!
You bet, it's a keeper indeed!
A true family treasure that you should consider keeping! THANK YOU for sharing your gems! :-)
You are doing the right thing by keeping it. If it had been my father's, I would never let it go. Any model train that is marked "Made in U.S. of America - Lionel Corporation, N.Y." is something to be preserved. Your father was fortunate to have it.

Very cool train set, nice to see it running. it's also a great piece of family history!
Beautiful! Did you really get this to run without Legacy or DCS? Seems like a good idea to me!

I do not know what Legacy and DCS are.
Wish I had it? Made in America is why it still works.

In my opinion, that is just as well. They are modern electronic train control systems. Your train can be enjoyed without them - and that is a good thing.

Classic Lionel trains are the real deal and they will never be replaced........No mater how many bells and whistles go into the new trains. Good call keeping you dads trains....They are to be treasured!
Hang on to that beauty. It’s a family heirloom and a piece of history that’s fun to play with. I’m glad you realized that.

The cutting and alignment of the gears shows quality workmanship.
