The start of a small layout. My first ever. The beginning of the end of full-time floor running.
This forum has been invaluable in gathering how-to and ideas. Many many thanks.

Good for you.
You are on your way! Thanks for posting.
Very cool start, bet its nice to get off the floor!
BASIL,
Real nice start, because it looks to be located in your basement, think Dehumidifier!

Very nice start, keep us updated.
Thanks, Dave. I have two big dehumidifiers in my basement, one right under the layout. I'll be picking up an air filter next. I'm very concerned about dust!
Good job Basil, keep us posted.
Andy
Basil,
Good start to the layout. Looks to be an L shaped 8' x 8'? Be sure to document your layout build to post updates here on the forum (so you can be an inspiration to others) and to submit to OGR!
Thanks, Stewart. I will keep posting here. I've gleaned so much information from these forums I figured it would be a shame to use it and not share what I've learned. Anyway, the main board is 4x10 with a 4x4 "L" section. The main board lies north/south. For reference, I took the pic facing south. I hope to make the north end elevated as that will be my "rural" route and the south end town. I'm going to elevate using 1.5" foam board stacked two high over the base--a real gentle grade. I got the idea from a pic on saw on the forums here that I can't find again! So The "L" will be my yard with three sidings.
P.S., that "bluff" in the pic--I made that, including the trees. I carved it out of foam used to ship car parts and Great Stuff. I'll post pics/video of that at some point.
