So after reading about MTH coming out with tinplate transition coupler cars and seeing the prices it did get me thinking about making my own. I do have the small metal adapters but I like the transition car idea. I was very lucky to have a friend give my a tinplate tank car last week that was missing a coupler hood. I thought I had one but I did not so then it occurred to me that I had bought a just lot for the specific reason of getting some postwar trucks to make a transition car. The tank car is like the one that MTH is making but this one has cost a lot less.

So, here are a couple of pictures. Thoughts?

Sorry, I don't like the mismatched trucks. I've accomplished the same purpose with a home-made knuckle compatible coupler attached to the frame on one end and retaining both prewar trucks. I've also used postwar trucks under a prewar tank car with one frame-mounted box coupler on the car. I think prewar tank cars ride too high to look good and it can be lowered on postwar trucks for a somewhat better appearance IMO.

The trucks should match!
