I have all the Lionel I "need". However, this does not stop me from checking Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist, for Lionel offerings that are close, and priced right. Usually the price is way too high, but last week I saw a Lionel offering at a somewhat high price, right across town from me. I waited 5 days and the ad was still there, so today I messaged the lady. Well, The price was way lower, so I want and had a look. Came home with a nice selection of Lionel items. The engine is a 726RR, which I understand was only made one year , about 52 or 53. It runs pretty good, and the whistle works in the tender. I believe I have a  nearly complete set here, and need to research this to see if it was indeed offered as a set. Here are a few photos. I am happy as a clam, as they say.

Nice find. I believe the 726rr engine was a later version of the original 726 that came with a scale detailed tender, had a smoke bulb and used corrosive ammonium nitrate as the smoke chemical.  This one (the rr) should have the wire wound smoke unit and uses SP smoke pellets. Both can be converted to use smoke fluid.

The 726 engines enjoy extra detail than the 736 Berks but did not have magnetraction. Still after 70 years and a with bit of lubrication these engines will still run like new; an indication of the fine American craftsmanship of years past.

Thanks. It does not have the Magnatraction as you mentioned. I read where they did not make it available due to some Korean War shortages. I don't know if that was the case or not. I need to clean it up and lube it well. It runs good forward, the e unit works fine, but it has a little "hitch in its get-a-long" when going in reverse. I have not yet found an exact set like this listed anywhere, but am still looking. Everything I have seen so far has a least one or more different cars, and I have no way of knowing what this came with, or what was added later. It was fun to find this so close, and at a fair price.

If I remember correctly it was built in 1952 only, same as a 736 (don't remember whether sintered iron wheels or cast and rim wheels) except no magnetraction as pointed out above due to AlNiCo magnetic material shortages caused by the Korean Conflict.  The catalog shows a small RR under the 726 number on the cab.  Find a 1952 catalog and see what is shown for the set.  That is to be a great find.
