Back in August 2009 I bought a brand new Legacy remote and base, yesterday I run one of my Lionel trains for fifteen minutes or so and shutt everything off, today I turn everything on in order to run several tranis and my TMCC crane and Surprise: my remote LCD never came on, is like I did not press the CTC, so, I replace the batteries with new ones and the LCD still dark, my remote is dead just like that, yesterday it worked and today is totally silent and dark. Should I call Lionel, buy a new one, or take it apart myself. I am assumen that if I send it to Lionel just in shipping charges problably $30.00 both ways plus Lionel labor estimate another $100.00, How much a new cost? and it comes with warranty. Does anybody went thru this inconvenience? How the problem was resolved?

Send it to Lionel. Mike Reagan stated you won't buy Lionel trains to run if your Legacy System isn't working. They are still covering Legacy repairs under warranty for the most part. If you are a veteran, shipping is now free.
Call Lionel for an RA.
Shipping charges are not that expensive unless you live in another country. You don't have to ship the heavy brick back with the unit, just the base and CAB2.
As Marty states, it should be repaired for free anyway, and at a minimum they pay the return shipping charges.
Send it back and get it fixed. Lionel will cover the cost of the repair. I sent in my original
cab-s from my big boy purchase bought back in 2007 for a sticky brake key and they replaced it with a brand new cab-2.
They messed up the charging circuit on mine doing the upgrade and then it just quit all together.
Lady at lionel sent me a UPS shipping label UPS picked it up on Monday and dropped it back off on Friday . That's from Ohio to Virginia
I don't think you could ask for better.
There service is admazing .I went there monday to get the exchanged boards for my vl challenger and they did it with me waiting . I was there a total of 12 mins. I wait longer on my wife to go to the store.

I had a similar experience, but they paid shipping both ways for the repair, so I wasn't too mad.
Thanks for the replay guys, I spoke with Lionel today and they send me a RA, so tomorrow first thing in the morning I will go to UPS and ship my remote with the base and the batteries.
The other night a freind of mines legacy did this. He was bummed for over an hour after pushing all the buttons and replacing the batteries. I took it off him ,took the back cover off, removed the batteries and bent the tabs so the batteries where tighter. Came right on.Its worth a try before sending it back.. One of legacys i take to the shows gets beat around alot. I had similiar issue, and have put aluminium foil on one of the battery heads.
Thats a good tip Patrick, possibly an easy fix. I know this was "routine maintenance" on my cab 1's. I always checked the tabs before I installed new batteries.
I received my remote and my base/charger from Lionel a week ago, the mulfuction with the LCD screen was fix under the warranty, but unfortunately, it is on his way to Lionel again because the remote discharge the batteries in less that 24 Hrs., in other words, after I run the trains I have to remove at least one battery from the remote, otherwise, next day the batteries are discharge, even though I press CTC to shut the remote off,and of course with low charge (1.20V.) the locomotives are unable to take the commands, no matter if the batteries are rechargable or just Alkaline (I have to trash the Alkaline because as you guys know they are not rechargable)so, to run the trains I have to recharge the batteries every day at least three Hrs. in advance and I am talking about run the trains for may be 30 minutes, shut the remote off and next day batteries are totally dicharge again, unless, I remove at least one from the remote. I want to mention that since I bought the Legacy control about two years and half ago or so, I never, ever have any issue with the batteries neither with the base/charger, this problem began after I received my Lagacy control from Ohio last week, one issue was fix, but, a new one appear, Why? How can? go figure, I hope Mr reagan read this post, because without Legacy control how good are the locomotives with all the nice features?
