I hooked up my Z-1000 brick to the TIU, turned it on . Got 1 red light on-off. Set my 2-8-0- Railking on the track and added it. Runs fine on my new figure 8 layout with 1 power and ground hooked up. Gets a signal of 10 all around.

Sometimes things just work out like they should!
You are right GRJ. Just added the MTH RS-3 from Mario's trains. Again added without a problem. This engines runs so much better than it did with the remote commander. Also, I can now get the sound to a much nicer, lower volume. The RS 3 went around the fig 8 and the oval at 2 miles per hour.

I also traded up from the Commander and am pretty geeked about having full DCS capability! GRJ warmed a while back ago -- be careful, you won't be able to stop running your trains. Boy, I'll say.
Lessons learned: If you use the auto backlight for the LCD screen the remote will devour batteries. Best to have a small LED strip or other light along the table edge for night running. Also have had a couple of events where the remote loses an address -- a known glitch according to Barry. Looks ominous at first but you can easily re-add the engine but not at the original address.

Looks like fun! Glad everything is working as advertised.

Larry,
Welcome to the DCS world, sounds like you did everything right, ya got to love DCS on FasTrack. Now invest in the FT Command Control Switches and a new 990 Legacy and you go it all! Congrats on a nice DCS FasTrack layout! Real nice going Larry.
PCRR/Dave
Something else to invest in for complete DCS educaion!
Congrats! I'm still running my modern trains conventionally, although I am considering DCS.
Keys6700,
Make the jump into DCS, it you have ever dreamed of running your conventional
engines via remote control, DCS is the way to go DCS. Set up correctly DCS runs
quite well with your older ZW & KW transformers also.

Pine Creek RR,
Yeah, I was gonna get it but then I came across a steam loco I wanted, so I got it.
Plus, I have a 4'x8' layout with one loop of track and 2 switches, so it's not necessary yet. I am gonna get another table the same size, so I might get it. I think I'll have DCS within the next year or so.
Thanks
Well I just received the Enercell 18-24V Power adapter w/ M connector to power my T I U.
But, the TIU does not come on. No Red light.
Where could the problem be??
Do you have a voltmeter available that you could use to determine whether there is power at the plug that goes into the TIU? It is (unfortunately) possible your adapter is DOA.
HMB - I'll check that out. Thanks
Larry
Well that solves that. No power coming out to the TIU
I put the voltmeter probes into the 2 little holes in the power outlet without the M Connector, and nothing
So I guess the Enercell power adapter is no good. I\ll e mail the seller and let him know.
Larry,
Bummer sounds like a bad Raido Shack power pack alright, never saw this happen before with one of there power packs failing completely. Larry your luck is as bad as mine. One thing however, you did have the power pack set to the correct voltage didn't you, when you tried to use it! The power pack has both a 18 & 24 V setting on it, these switches can sometimes ride the middle and give problems. Make sure the switch is fully in the correct position on the Radio Shack power pack, then try it again.

Pine Creek - no juice thru at either 18 or 24V Dead! Vebndor onn E bay is refunding me in full after he receives it back. I found another one , the older model # 273-331.
I should get it next week.
Larry,
Like I said your luck is exactly like mine! I have the old 273-1690 unit, works perfectly, when the switch is positioned properly. I almost returned mine due to improper switch location.

jjmmagoo,
Hope you and your son have many many years of fun with your DCS, I love mine,
give anything in the world to have my son be able to run it with me, enjoy every single day.

Larry,
Be careful when using Radio Shack power supplies as they can just up & die! No warning they just quit. I had two DC power supplies from Radio Shack fail in the past 18 months, I was using them for lighting.
Try using an older transformer from Lionel or MTH for your power source.

Philly,
While some of Radio Shacks stuff is questionable, the 273-1690 type power supply units are not really a problem, and seem to be made with real decent quality, have had mine for over 10 years and it still works perfectly.
PCRR/Dave
I agree with Dave. That particular RS product has always been a winner.
I have a new one of those coming. Bought 8 days ago, stuck in customs perhaps.
In the meantime I'm using my Z1000 brick with the adapter cable powering Fixed 1 . 1 power hookup on track. Signal 10 everywhere so far.

Larry,
Did you finally get your new power supply for your DCS or are you still waiting?
PCRR/Dave
New power supply came this AM. Finally. Set it to 18 V - plugged it into power and to the TIU. Red light in TIU come on. Hooked up the Z-1000 Brick to fixed 1 and away I went. Ran my 2 trains for a few min and "HAD A GREAT TRAIN DAY"
Thank you for asking. This is my older layout with 2 trains, 2-z1000 and 10's all around with K Line -RMT Track
