This is the 2002 model of the veranda turbine , it has great sound runs very nice and has the smoke coming out of the right places, I decided on this model after looking at the new turbine from MTH.

Lionel's model of the turbine holds up well in detail, sound, paint etc. to the newer model of MTH's. The Lionel engine even has some detail omitted by MTH.

Don't get me wrong, MTH has some detail left off by Lionel like windshield wipers, and some of MTH's detail is finer and of course one is diecast and the other ABS.

My personnel preference was to get the Lionel unit because of several things, it is diecast, sounds were comparable to MTH's and I run mostly TMCC and legacy. Your thoughts may differ.

The video is just fair as I don't have a good video camera, but enjoy. The train does come pass the camera twice.

David,

I bought the Lionel version from a OGR forum member and am quite happy with the units. Really heavy pieces, run well, smoke great(8.4 ohm resistors) and sounds are the usual excellence for railsounds. Been looking for this piece for almost 10 years and waited for the best price possible.

See you at York and assuming you are enjoying retirement from Pathmark. My days with Nabisco can end whenever I am tired of the BS-just a call to HR.

David:

One of the best engines Lionel has produced. Even back in 2002, we had to wait quite awhile from the time it was introduced in a separate catalog till the time it reached the consumer. The red headlight feature, when the engine is stopped, is another nice feature, as Ted has mentioned.

I think you made an excellent decision in selecting this model of the Veranda.

David,

2 smoke units.

Front which comes on after speed step 7 as you hear the sounds change.

Aux1, press 2 , press 1- front fan unit on-repeat again same numbers and fan unit off.

Aux1, press 2, press 2- front smoke element on- repeat again same numbers for off.

Rear comes on with start-up and shuts down once you go to speed step 7.

Aux1, press 1, press 2- rear fan and element on- repeat same numbers for off.

It is on page 20 of the manual. If you did not get the manual which I did not get with my engine, you can easily download it off Lionel's site.
