I have been thinking of getting wifi for sometime but this past summer I got a chance to see it in person at Gerry Morlitz home. It was amazing the short time I got to use it.

This past York I decided to buy it and install it. After some issues hooking it up that were totally my fault I put my first engine on the track and added it to my iPad and ran it, I am awestruck on how well it worked and this was on the free app. I then upgraded to the premium app and it is even better.

If your hesitating using wifi because you think you are too old ( I'm 72 ) or not techie enough ( I'm not ) give it a try, it is great IMO.

Now back to the fun.

David!, now that you have WiFi, and you like it, you may want to consider downloading the HiRail App especially if you have Sensor tracks. It makes programming them so easy...no need to push the buttons on the Sensor Track to program or record and that's only one of the functions. I use an iPhone, not sure if it's available for an Android phone.

I do switching on my layout with switchlists and lot of back forth movement.    There is no continous run, all trains have work to do.   It can take up to 8 people to operate the layout.

To do this we need precise control for stopping and moving slowly to spot cars at precise locations and uncouple them.    I don't see how a touchpad or even push buttons can do this.   I have radio throttles with knob control for speed and toggles for direction and a series of buttons for horns, bells, light etc.

I think wifi might work ok for running trains continously and using the sound functions for many people, but not so for operations.  A second problem, I have very dry skin, and I find touch pads on computers and phones do not work very well for me.    They are very intermittant and then do things I don't want.
