While on vacation a week ago, I visited this beautiful layout in Blairsville, Georgia. The layout depicts sights and cities in the Southern Appalachian Mountains which include the States of Georgia, Tennessee and North Carolina. This layout was created by the late Charles Griffin and two of his friend’s. When visiting this layout you do not walk around it like most train layouts…you walk into it! You walk on rivers & lakes and under bridges. Intentionally, Mr. Griffin created some of the trains to run low to the ground in order for children to be able to see them up close. This layout has been published in OGR Magazine and video was created by OGR in Great Layout Adventures Volume 10. This is a great layout to visit!  Ken

I had the occasion to meet Mr Griffin twice and thoroughly enjoyed his amazing layout and extensive train collection. He said that they get something like 25,000 visitors annually, sometimes by the busloads. What a blessing that his grandson can continue to operate the layout he created. Excellent video - thanks for sharing!

I've been there once and watched several videos. I've looked at dozens of pictures

and I am still seeing things that I don't remember seeing before. There is a thread

at Legacy Station Facebook page that shows a video of Misty Mountain Railroad but

if you can possibly see it in person you won't be disappointed. You can see some of

the structures like the old Atlanta Terminal, state capital, Stone Mountain,Lowes

Grand theater (where Gone With The Wind was premiered) Tara, and so many more,

but I guess my favorite is the model of the Biltmore house. I can still think of so

many things that I did not mention and all are interesting. If you go, I bet you don't

see everything the first time either.

Luckily I am within driving distance of Misty Mountain Railroad so I am able to visit it easily.

It still amazes me whenever I go I see a number of things on the layout I never noticed before.  Reading this thread makes me want to go and see it again.

if you are able, this is a must see layout.  IMO it is overwhelming in scope and detail.

As as an added bonus you can see Charles' awesome collection of trains.   Charles was a gracious man with an amazing vision.  Fortunately his family has chosen to keep the layout open to the public.
