My service dog and I flew from Oregon to San Antonio, Texas to attend the Alamo Bowl and see some trains.  We went there to get some warmer weather also but in fact it was colder in Texas than in Oregon........go figure.  There was one warm day where temps were in the 70's, so we soaked up as much sun as possible.  We walked from our hotel to the Alamo every morning and Lady especially liked the "riverwalk" and parks nearby.  Traveled up to Temple, TX where I visited the Santa Fe station (I modeled this on my Texas layout) and toured their wonderful 2nd floor museum.  Plenty of action in the Temple yard also so my camera was smoking between photo's shots and video.  All in all a great time in Texas.  I planned to meet up with a fellow forum member on the last day of my stay but the weather kept me from returning to San Antonio with time for the visit.  Len.........next time for sure.

Hobby-go-lucky......no, I never lived in Texas.  I modeled my "Texas" layout around Temple and San Antonio Texas because of the Texas Special runs back in the 50's.  San Antonio is larger than I thought.  Pretty big city now.  I pretty much stayed around the downtown area due to Alamo Bowl activities and the game itself.  My sister has a cattle ranch just North of Temple and my priority was to go to the station that I modeled on my layout.

Keith, thanks.  Had a great time in San Antonio.  All the people were so friendly and the food was super.  Gained way too much weight from eating all the BBQ there.  I hope to return when the weather is a mite warmer.

San Antonio has grown greatly over the past 25 years or so. It's presently approaching 1.4 million in population, one of the largest cities in the country. Obviously there's a heavy Hispanic influence that continues to grow, and also a lot of industries have moved into the area in recent years.

You won't have to wait long for the "mite warmer" to start. Come in the summer, and it's a whole lot more than "mite!"
