Attempting to make custom station decals for my layout. Would anyone know for example what typefaces or fonts railroads like Nickel Plate, New York Central, B&O and Wheeling used for their station signs?

I have purchased fonts from RailFonts.com. The proprietor, Ben Coifman is a very good guy.
Just his catalog may be a reference to you: http://www.railfonts.com/Info/catalog.pdf .
The NKP font, for example, is shown on page 6.
Most of his fonts are 10 or $15 each and I know he has some bundling discounts.

I actually got the NKP font from him but I know that they did not use that font for everything. I'll probably end up getting a few more from him.
Station Sign fonts or letter types are usually different from the regular railroad graphics. Somebody would have to find old signs or photos of the signs.
