Did the N&W have express reefers to match their passenger equipment or did they use some type of generic reefer or none at all?

David,
There were some, but, not a lot (at least 14). I also think that there were some converted box cars used in express or mail service. I have little information on them. I would imagine most express reefer type cars found in N&W trains were from interchange, thus, were of other reporting marks.
Thanks Big Jim, I also know almost nothing about what kind cars they used for express and mail service. I was just wondering so I could add some to my N&W passenger trains.

MTH produces a nice R50b express reefer quite often -- and usually in two numbers per roadname. But you need to grab them when they're released, 'cause they don't sit around too long. The last N&W they did was from 2009, and isn't showing up in anyone's "online inventory" at the moment. Doesn't mean they're not out there somewhere... just won't be easy to search online.

I believe the only correct model of an R50b is the PRR ones(as I don't think anyone else used them!) I might be wrong, but I was under the impression the the name "R50b" is PRR's name for them. Although, even if only PRR had them, if you like them(they are nice), get one for N&W!
You can always say that N&W bought some from PRR and repainted them for use on your fictitious branch of the N&W. How can you argue with that?
They will look prototypical to anyone but a PRR or N&W expert
There are many photographs of N&W passenger trains. You might spend a little time researching those and see what type, if any, of headend cars were used.
