If this is the TMCC version, try swapping the R2LC with another locomotive. The smoke triac on the R2LC may have croaked.
thanks but haven't got clue of what that is
Since you obviously have the boiler off, the R2LC is the plug-in board on the motherboard.
Does your locomotive have an item number??? What are you seeing on your meter???
item # 6-28052 my donor candidates would be a 15 yr old [approx] EM1 or a century club Niagara any thoughts. Thank you both for helping , it is appreciated. Charlie
You would want to read 27 ohm if your heating element is good. Did you first reprogram the locomotive using the AUX code number 74? This may have been all you need to do. If you are getting the fan and no heating on the element, you may have a bad smoke PCB. I see these often.
If you have another R2LC board, do what John stated after you program it for your engine. Your engine uses a C08 R2LC.

Actually, the 6-28052 Class A came with a R2LC C07.
A C08 will work, but I'm fairly certain you'll need to flip the polarity on the front classification lights for those to work properly.
