Just got email from VMT saying that 611 is returning to the museum tomorrow (Wednesday). No info on timing - email says to check the museum's Facebook page for info when it gets closer.

At Spencer, N.C., for "maintenance and inspections," for nearly a year.

Why diesels? She didn't normally have a diesel when she was handling big/long excursion trains.
Consist today through Greensboro, NC. 611 and tender, maroon striped aux tank, two tool cars, three gons of coal. NO DIESELS.
Here she is coming through Bonsack Va, almost home to Roanoke. I live about 15 minutes from Bonsack and can never get enough of seeing the Queen run. Never know when she will run next. Not the best video, but I thought I would share.

Looked pretty good to me.
COOL! THANKS for sharing! Glad there was no infernal combustion (diesels) in the consist!
Thanks Dean for sharing.
So where is she headed now?

Back to her home at the Virginia Museum of Transportation, in Roanoke, Va.
Thank you guys for your kind words and if you don't mind, I have one more to share. This one is from 2017 when the 611 was heading out of Roanoke to Lynchburg. My brother in law from Indiana was in town and we had went on the 611 excursion the day before. He was now hooked, as I am, so we saw it every chance we got. Here we are at the same location in Bonsack but on the Blue Ridge Parkway bridge. As you can tell from our comments, seeing the 611 running live never gets old.

AMEN to that! They knew how to build 'em in Roanoke!
Rode behind her and 1218 on several occasions during the former Southern, and later NS, Steam Program. Got to shovel some coal and work the injector one late night in Chattanooga, TN when a friend was tending her overnight for a trip the next day. The first time the injector failed to lift and it blasted a trench in the ballast on the engineer's side!
