I run MTH 2bay offset hoppers, and fishbelly hoppers. Atlas 55 ton are the best in my opinion, but also the most delicate (Not great to transport to modular layouts). All MTH in the video. Almost 90 of them! All the N&W you see in the video are fish belly hoppers. MTH made 6 differnt 6-packs of them, and also some singles. That would give you all different car #s and look awesome behind your Y6b!

Lots of good suggestions. I really like the Lionel offset hoppers from a few years ago.  They are scale, have diecast bodies (heavy), and pull really well.  They were all made before Lionel's conversion to the cheapo plastic non-sprung (thumbtack) trucks, so they have the nice metal trucks with hidden coupler tabs.  They were made in many road names, including N&W.  For the most part, they can be found fairly easily in the secondary market and even some dealer NOS.

Hi,

Several years ago I started a list for mostly prototypical scale steam era N&W items from various importers. If you are interested in adding to the list, post your additions and corrections and I will include them in the original post.

There are a good number of various hoppers with photos listed and various importers in the thread link below. I hope to get more photos to update in the near future.

So I’ve been looking around and they’re are a lot of O scale N&W coal hoppers out there and I need help choosing which one is the most prototypical for the Steam Era. They would be pulled by my Lionel Legacy Y6b.

Thanks

Just my opinion, but I believe the key word in your request is "prototypical" for the steam era. Except for the PSC brass 2-Rail SCALE cars, mentioned above, there really isn't much available for "prototypical" N&W 2-bay coal hoppers, in O Scale 3-Rail.

I think the N&W had Fishbelly hoppers like the MTH Fishbelly, except theirs may have all had peaked ends.     I don't know about the ends for sure.

I am also pretty sure they had some of the PRR H21 (or maybe H25) 4 bay hoppers.    I don't know how they got them, but I am pretty sure they had some painted N&W that were either built for them or bought from Pennsy.

A little research might tell you if they had the USRA 55 ton car which is the Atlas O USRA car.

N&W fish bellies in the steam era had peaked ends.

Most of the research has been done.
