GREAT FUN! THANKS for sharing!
Definitely the influence of General Medaris.
Thanks for posting the link!
Did anybody notice that the turbo missles were all missing the red insert in their center, and that the capsule on the launching mercury rocket has hand drawn decorations?
Watching these old Lionel commercials is a lot of fun. They did make an honest attempt to bring more fun and interaction into the hobby and capitalize on the growing interest of the space program and our military's involvement in missile development.
Yes, this was direction that Lionel pursued after General John Medaris became President of Lionel. It was bold and innovative marketing.

Loved it!
Thanks for posting!
Terrific!
My wife found a DVD set at WalMart a last year that was filled with old commercials from the 50's, 60's and 70's. It had many cool Lionel, American Flyer and other toy commercials.
That was great. A bit of Americana.

I showed it to my 9 year old son and he loved it!
Interesting how times and technology have changed but some things stand the test of time. Of course my son is the only boy his age that has a train set and an interest in the hobby. But once his friends see the layout, maybe they will be "converted" too.
How about this commercial from 1981 with Lionel Trains and four generations of family ?

This reminds me of some of the car ads that show the "tradition". After seeing them, I say, "Gee, I like the looks of the old ones better".
You can't beat Johnny Cash!!
The "trains and truckin'" looked like a neat set.
and this one too (Marx never looked better).

I remember when our local Woolworth's was packed with these in the early 70's.
Man I remember when this commercial came out in 1962! That's a good quality video clip of it!
I remember the Johnny Cash Lionel commercial too! Great stuff!
I recall the voice of the guy who did all those Marx commercials too!
Great memories. Thanks for sharing them.
