I have a Lionel dockside switcher with a newly noticeable intermittent noise I'm trying to eliminate but I first need to locate the source and that's proving to be quite a challenge. With so many moving parts in a steam loco, where should I start? I've oiled the drive rod/wheel connecting points but it's still there and annoying me to no end. Hard to figure out exactly where it's coming from when the loco is moving along the track (and on noisey fastrack at that.) It's like a hybrid clicky-sqeaky noise that's actually not that noticeable to many except me. I guess since I know it's there J'm fixating on it and noticing it more. What's equally as bad is how elusive it is trying to locate where it's coming from and what's causing it? Engine has seen very little use and noise wasn't there when I first started running it. Anyone else's dockside switcher making a similar nloise. I welcome suggestions on best way to figure out where the noise is coming from and what's causing it so I can eliminate it.
Thanks,
Kenn
