I need to replace a whistle unit in a tender for the Lionel 249E with a 265W tender.  The original whistle is a pot-metal casting and many part have broken or plain worn out over the years.  Any ideas of where I can find a workable replacement.  I don't need a perfect collector's item replacement.

I will be attending the York meet this Thursday.

Thanks, ray

When repairing these whistle units, I have often found that it is the impeller(fan)that has suffered the dreaded zinc pest/casting fatigue and replacing just that part plus cleaning up the commutator and brushes will restore these to good operation. Most postwar parts dealers have the replacement impellers.

I don't have the piece to photograph (currently).  The unit I'm trying to replace is for a pre war 265W tender and the whistle has a die cast body (it is a tin plate tender).  One of the mounting brackets is broken and it is worn out.  Do you have a table and in which hall?  Thanks, ray

Rectangle.  If you look at it quickly, it is very similar to the plastic case post war versions, although I think the mounting tabs are different.
