From The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Railroad Lighting Volume 1 we have the following:

"PERKINS MARINE LAMP CORPORATION ???TO??? RAYO - ??? TO CA. 1923 STANDARD VACUUM OIL COMPANY (MOBILE OIL) - CA. 19223 TO ???

The Perkins Marine Lamp Corporation was located in Brooklyn, N.Y. Perkins was taken over by Rayo which in turn was taken over by Standard-Vacuum Oil Company.

Rayo lanterns were manufactured by other companies to Rayo specifications. Known manufacturers of Rayo lanterns include:R.E. Dietz Co., Defiance Lantern and Stamping Corporation, Pritchard-Strong Company, and Embury Manufacturing Company. Rayo lanterns have shown up marked with express company names, but we know of no Rayo lanterns marked with railroad names. Rayo, however, produced lanterns of the same general appearance as railroad lanterns. Undoubtedly, some were used in railroad service at one time or another. We have no photographs, advertisements, or catalogs of Rayo lanterns. RAY-XX identification number series should be used.
