I upgraded my steam locomotive with an ERR TMCC controller, railsounds card, super chuffer, chuff generator and fan driven smoke unit. All these items work except I only get a ticking sound out of the speaker, no other sounds. I believe I set the engine option type correctly to 4 for steam locomotive. I tried another railsound board, replaced the serial cable between the controller and the sound board. I am out of ideas and would appreciate any help. Thank you for your time.

Check the speaker and see if one lead is grounded, that's the sound you get if you have a short to ground.
Another test I would do- conventional test 101.
The sound card should work "standalone". Unplug the serial data, ensure you have power on the power input connector a working speaker attached and it should startup and make conventional sounds. Also ensure nothing plugged into the other data port (chuff reed switch).

Operation in Conventional Mode
The RAILSOUNDS sound will start up and operate when the power applied to the
track reaches 10 volts AC. Installing the 9 volt battery is recommended for
conventional operations since it enables sounds to continue during track power
interruptions (Not required for this "conventional" test). Additionally, when track power is turned off for more than a few
seconds, the shutdown sequence will start and play to completion.
The sounds available in conventional mode are the prime mover rev’s or steam
chuff (you won't get chuff without a chuff switch or serial data stream with chuff), the horn or whistle, and bell.
The Horn/Whistle and Bell buttons on the transformer operate the respective sounds
on the RAILSOUNDS board. The horn or whistle will sound as long as the button is
pressed. The bell will stay activated until the Bell button is pressed again.
Thank you gentleman. Some other events took me away from this tonight but I hope to be able to try these ideas tomorrow evening. I'll let you know how it turns out.
Well it's been a few days since I posted my problem but it was a short in the speaker, thanks John. Thank you to all who viewed it and especially those who responded. It is so much help to have others to bounce your problems off of. I am having some other issues but I believe I have those figured out by adding a center rail collector to the tender for more pick up.
