I have the original Lionel automatic compressing pressure contactor with the crossing gate and gateman and I need the proper mechanism to hookup the accessories to the Atlas track. With the exception of the 153IR (to expensive) any ideas, Thanks Mike

Use an insulated outside rail. You can buy insulated Atlas rail joiners for cheap. You may or may not need a relay.
Here's a forum post on how to hook it up.

145 Gateman and 252 crossing gate. Would should be able to use outside insulated control rail rail. See attached PDF. From "How to Operate Lionel Trains and Accessories" Example shows tubular track, but should be able to do the same with Atlas Track.

Mike,
I would use 153IR's. They are not that expensive & they are "Fail Safe"!! I have 6 of them on my Layout, and would use nothing else!!!
