A friend purchased a Pecos River Brass Santa Fe Hudson on the Bay. A picture of the label on the box is below.

The engine did not work today when we attempted to run it on the CJHR Layout. Nothing but headlights, and marker lights, no sounds or indicators that the motor is trying to run.

Could someone provide informal about this engine:

type of electronics / E unit

type of sound system

Any trouble shooting tips would be appreciated!

 Thanks,

Richard

Pecos River was mostly 2-rail, and if a 2-rail locomotive has not run for a while it needs to be lubricated and checked.  You usually disengage the worm; make sure the drivers rotate freely, lubricate and reassemble.  Older motors with exposed commutators may need a little help on that first rotation in a quarter-century.

I have two, the 3458 and the 3451. If it is original it has the Dallee system which sounds horrible. The faster you convert to ERR TMCC the better. Though I never had your problem I would take apart the tender and make sure everything is hooked up. I would also pull the boiler to see if the motor wires are still attached. These have can motors and run well.

Let me know if you have any more questions. It is one very fine model.
