A serial "Y" cable will work.  2 males to a female per the DCS Companion 3rd edition.  You should get it.

Barry needs to check this. I think it is wrong. The port on the TIU is a female and the serial to USB cable is a male and the TIU end of the TMCC cable is a male. So, the correct "Y" cable would be a male to 2 females.

This is what I ordered to replace the wrong one I got. https://www.amazon.com/gp/prod...00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I will post pictures of everything connected together when I get the cable.

Many apologies!

You are correct - the book has a typo. It should be 1 female to 2 males.

Barry, I think it should be 1 male to 2 females.

The pins are the part of the component being described as male, not the shield. Check the link I posted.

Here is the TIU.

You can see the TIU port is a female. It needs a male cable.

Both ends of the TIU to TMCC cable are male, so the "Y" cable would need a female end.

Here is the serial to USB cable recommended by MTH to connect the WIU. It has a male end and needs a female from the 'Y' cable.

Here is the cable from the link above that I think will work.

To connect the TMCC cable, it would be helpful to have a couple of hex barrel joiner nuts to screw both sides into. Although zip ties or rubber bands should do a sufficient job of keeping the two sides joined together.
