THe instructions state this engine has williams true sounds with synchronized steam chuffing, digital bell and whistle.below is exact data from instructions

TRUE SOUNDS

TRUE SOUNDS RECREATES the authentic sounds of a steam engine bel and whistle.the timing of the chuffing steam sounds are controlled by a magnet and pickup device on one of the tender axles.

the above info is from the orginal instruction sheet-i am guessing this engine was made around 1995.

there is a williams catalog with the instructions listing a brass scale nyc dreyfuss with steam true soundsand a scale up challenger featuring williams steam true sounds.

Are you sure this item was actually made by Williams? And not just put into a catalog like the "Station Sounds" for some higher end passenger cars?

I know that Williams dealt with QSI Industries for a while before selling out to Bachmann. The brass items by Williams were made for Williams by another company, from what all I can gather.

My best guess at testing this engine would be to use the Williams 80 watt transformer or the MTH Z-1000, a 100 watt transformer.

The "True Sounds" seems to be just before the True Blast 2 system by Williams.

I KEPT A COUPLE BAck issues of ctt from 1996 and 1997.inthe feb1996 issue williams is selling a special brass up challenger and n&w class a engine with williams true sound-these were called their masterclass series.

there is a ott ad also.the williams true spound is trademarked and offered for their f7's deisels or just horn and whistle package.

The later "master" series from Williams did have sound - I have one of the NYC Dreyfuss

Hudsons - but no Command Control.

This "early Williams sound" story has surfaced before - but it seems to be something talked and written about, but never produced...? Interesting, but the nice, early Samhongsa brass Williams production (like the UP 4-8-8-4) never had factory sound that I know of. But, that's just me.
