I should have stated more clearly what I need to know. I want to upgrade to a faster acting circuit breaker than the original and add a solid state replacement for the whistle diode. Jim Barret had articles in the magazine giving Radio Shack part numbers. I can't find the paper that I wrote them down on. Does anyone know them or know the run of the magazine iwhich they appeared?

The whistle diodes Jim Barrett recommends in his video are the NTE 5991 stud mounted, anode to case, 40 amp diodes. I have been using them in my rebuilds and they make a big difference compared to the original disc type.

There was a thread back a month ago or so where some of the guys are having good luck using zener diodes.

As for the breakers, I have been using ones found at the automotive stores.

I am using a 15 amp breaker in my ZWs, 10 amp breakers in the KWs and 6 amp in the 1033's with no problems and they trip instantly.

As for the LW probably a 10 amp would do.

Good Luck!

I was wanting to install some circuit breakers on my layout and I was wondering if someone could tell me if this circuit breaker (mouser 693-T9-311C-8) from mouser electronics should work ok ?  It's rated at 8 Amps 240voltsAC 48volts DC.  It seems similar to digi key #pb-188-nd which rsfulton said works great.  However I bought one (from mouser) and put it in series with the track wiring but it does not trip even when I make a direct short on the track.  Anybody have any ideas why it doesn't seem to work?
