My first Lionel train was the 8007 plastic 2-6-4 New Englander, based upon the 675.  DC only, so I haven't run it in 25 years.  I'd like to get it running again, do a AC conversion and add TMCC.  Maybe there is a way to increase the pulling power- I remember it being kind of a dog and struggling to pull my Dad's 6464 boxcars.

Are there companies or people that specialize in modifying old locomotives in this way- kind of like a "restomod" for old muscle cars?  Thanks for any suggestions!

There are members on this forum that do that work.  The simplest/cheapest (coupla bucks) conversion would be to add a bridge rectifier so it runs on AC.  TMCC would be significantly more expensive (at least $100 w/o sound) However, if the engine is a dog, it makes no sense to spend money on it.  No conversion will improve it.  IMHO, it would be better to buy a used TMCC or Legacy engine.
