A few years ago someone walked up to me holding a box.  They said that I could have the train in the box if I wanted it.  Not being one to turn down a train I took the box.  Later I glanced at it and did not think positive thoughts about the jumbled mess in the box.  I put it aside until a couple of hours ago and decided to check out my treasure.

It took a while but to my surprise it was a Lionel.  After some flipping through catalogs it turned up in the 1978 issue.IMG_5779.1IMG_5778.1IMG_5780.1

At first glance, I thought it was Marx, but I saw the controller and read what you said. That's in really nice shape and looks complete. I won't go so far as to say it's rare, but those starter sets are usually beat up. Take good care of it.

I once got a gift horse, and no, you never look them in the mouth. Especially not in front of the gifter. When I got home I found this Auto-loader. That was one great horse. Still riding it 26 years later. If you don't recognize it, look it up. It's all about the cars.
