Hey all. Lionel has released a new version of the Cab 3 app. 1.1.029 is available in the App Store. The Power and Control website has the release notes. It seems a lot of bugs were resolved.

I am able to download Base 3 firmware from my iPhone now and the TMCC engine absolute engine speeds are working.

Looks like a great start!

V1.1.029

Release date: 9/17/24

This release fixes the following:

  • APP crash on iOS if BLE is off
  • APP crash during loco start-up
  • APP crash when clearing accessory
  • APP crash when pressing ACC multiple times
  • APP crash in multiple ways when Base3 database is empty
  • APP crash in TRAIN builder when pressing “remove”
  • APP stuck sending repeated commands (accidental swiping)
  • Buttons for up/down/left/right swipes – left/right swipes are disabled until a future update
  • Change how locos are addressed and started
  • Remove control type “LionChief” and sound types “LionChief and RailSounds RC”
  • Database clear not removing images
  • TMCC engines – sending absolute speed commands
  • TMCC Steam – water fill & blowdown commands
  • RPM commands for engine & trains not matching Cab2
  • Roll – brake sounds only when holding button
  • Diesel run level to zero when pressing reset
  • Rule 17 auto mode
  • EFX buttons on Legacy steam
  • Correction in preset dialog for StationSounds Diners
  • Accessory throttle action improved
  • TMCC Acela controls (Cab1 mode)
  • Crane car controls (Cab1 mode)

Bugs still to be worked on (high-level only):

  • Using TR for transformers
  • Multiple momentum fixes
  • Multiple throttle position errors
  • Train Brake issues
  • 4-Digit engine brake
  • TMCC Trains
  • Database backup and restore (local)
  • R100 control type
  • Maintain Wi-Fi connection when phone screen times out

Glad to see the update, found a few issues with some of the bug fixes so far.

in TMCC, sounds for blow down steam and water are reversed.

When in train link, you no longer see any of the station sounds diner lists of sounds. Neither list shows up whether you are moving or stationary.

I would send these to TalktoUs@lionel.com.  Make sure to include all the relevant information such as version, Base3 firmware, etc.

You can update the app by going to the Apple or Google Play store.

For the Firmware, open up the App and use the new button (bottom right of the Cab3 screen) to go to the Base3 configuration screen.  Push "Base Firmware Updater"  The instructions are there.  Incidentally they also appear on the Power and Control Website.

I did as suggested.  Go to the APPLE STORE and found the CAB3 APP , downloaded the "UPDATE"!

NOW:  The Problem with the REVERSING has gone away!!  Now using the CAB3 App., when you press the REV Button, no mater what speed you are running, when you press it, the ENGINE STOPS, Speed Lever goes to zero .   Push up on the Speed Lever and it goes in the other Directiom!!!!

GOOD JOB:  Lionel, Marty & Dave!!

Norm, it's pretty easy. I just uploaded a how to make a lash up video. Hope this helps reduce the terror!

Norm,

I failed to point out that if you build a lash-up that has "train-linked" cars, be sure the engine you want to be identified as the "end unit" (which is important for coupler operation) is loaded in last, or use the arrows at the top of the "train configuration" screen to move it to be the last or "end unit" in the display.  I know it looks odd, but that's the way it is.  So, if you have no 'train-link" enabled cars, not a problem.  I did not move the "ConRail" engine to the last car or "end unit"  It didn't affect the Train, except when you touch the "rear coupler" icon...in my demo, it fired the 'stock car' which is listed as the 'end unit.'  Hope this helps.  Trust me, once you build a Train it will all make sense.

The arrow in this screen shot identifies what position the locomotive is in in the "lash-up"

Ran a MU of two Legacy PC engines - GP-20 and RS-27.... everything works great after the 1.26 firmware update. Only issue is Towercom and Crewtalk buttons are reversed, and no momentum. Otherwise, I'm liking the Cab3/Base3 now that it functions as it should. When I run the MU with my Cab2, it seems much more responsive, which is a bonus.

What doesn't work about the Brake / Boost?  Maybe I am misunderstanding what you.re say.  When I tap the Brake button I get 3 sets of down arrows that when I pull down the engine brakes.  Same with the boost.

Hey Marty, I’ll have to look at that. I don’t see those 3 lines when I tap the brake button. When i tap the train brake just another lever comes up. Like the slider train brake from the cab2 remote.

Just so we are talking about the same Brake / Boost...

Train Brake is different from Brake / Boost.  Train Brake on Cab3 is the same as the slider on the left hand side of the Cab2 remote.  Brake / Boost is the similar to the rocker switch on a Cab2 that Boost, Brakes, and changes direction.  On cab3 there is a separate direction button though.

These buttons replicate the Brake / Boost functions of Cab1L or Cab2.

Cab3

Tap the lower "Arrow" and the Brake expands out.  Replicating the brake button of Cab2.  If you don't initiate and control will revert back in about 2 seconds but if you tape and then use the control it will stay expanded until you remove your finger.  Pull down and the brake engages.  Pull further and it slows faster.  The boost works the same but opposite.

Cab3 Brake

Tap the top "Arrow" and the Boost expands.

Cab3 Boost

In the Cab3 Settings menu you can select whether the Brake / Boost Holds where you disengage it or returns to where it was before using it.  This also replicates the Cab2 functionality.

Thank you Marty, for explaining that.  I see the arrows now per your instructions. That helps quite a bit. I've been trying to keep up with the Cab3 features but fall behind with the busy work week. I search the forums but rarely find my answers until I ask, which I hate asking redundant questions if they've been answered.

Thanks again for taking the time to explain.

Never hurts to ask.  Someone else maybe having the same issue.  We are all learning this system together.

NORM & Marty ;    In regards to the "TR FIX :   I'm using a ZWL on my Layout with the 4 CHANELS programed to TR (TRACK) 1,2,3 &4.  Now when I press the TR Button on MY CAB3, I get the Roster of all my TRACKS &"TRAINS"! When I go into the Roster and select one of the Tracks and push my Speed Lever UP  (or turn Red Speed Wheel)  I can see the Voltage go up on that TRACK (on my ZWL V Meter), but it goes irracticlly up and down as i push it up!! Don't understand that!  When I get to the "TOP" sometimes it will stop on 18 Volts & sometimes not.  If I play with the Lever up & down, i can get it to go to 18 Volts and it will stay there.  Is this a characteristic of the "ZWL"!

That is still on the list to fix...  Use you Cab2 for now.

Bugs still to be worked on (high-level only):

  • Using TR for transformers
  • Multiple momentum fixes
  • Multiple throttle position errors
  • Train Brake issues
  • 4-Digit engine brake
  • TMCC Trains
  • Database backup and restore (local)
  • R100 control type

When Marty says using TR for Transformers, does he really mean for PowerMaster and TPCxx devices? or is something for ZW-L combo units?

Assuming I can figure a way how to get a Legacy PowerMaster to apply track power, then, switch it to the Base3, will the LPMs respond to Halt?

I tested last evening and any command transformer, Powermasters and I assume TPC ( I don't have one) will respond to the HALT command from the App.  So until they fix this bug, use a Cab1L or Cab2 with Base3 to dial up the voltage on your transformers, TPCs,  or Powermasters  and if you need to trigger a HALT, the App will shut them down.

Just remember with the latest App version you can adjust how long you need to hold the HALT key on the App from .3 to 3 seconds.
