I thought everyone might appreciate a look at the reverse side of the new Canadian ten dollar bill. A nice tribute to the fact that the creation of the trans-continental railroad is what closed the deal for confederation an the creation of Canada.

There is some irony in the honor/celebration shows the train that doesn't follow the route that sealed the deal.  The current incarnation of VIA's Canadian runs on the more northern Canadian National route than the historically accurate Canadian Pacific route to the south.  That line went though Revelstoke, Craigellachie (last spike driven to tie east/west together), Banff, and Calgary.  You actually can't take a passenger train along the original route anymore.  Rocky Mountaineer can get you from Vancouver to Calgary and then you have to detour (by bus) from Calgary to Edmonton to pick up the VIA train.

The government closes down the passenger line that literally built the country to save money and then pastes a photo of a different train on a piece of money to celebrate the importance of the accomplishment?

You thinks that's weird? You ought to live there!
Just one of many strange Canuck anomalies.

Take our top news item lately; Toronto's mayor Rob Ford. In the news for all the wrong reasons!! What a dork.

Makes you proud to be Canadian. Yup

Despite any historical connotations, I really like it. Thanks for sharing this with us.

During my professional career, I made many trips to our good neighbors to the north. These days, I do not have much opportunity to use Canadian currency, but if I did, this is one bill I would enjoy using.

There was a very nice 2 hour special on PBS "Travels" called "Last Train Across Canada".  Featured Murray Sayles taking a 7000 mile trip across Canada on the last run of "The Canadian"  The extra milage covers two side trips to Hudson's Bay and parts of Atlantic Canada not on the main line.  There is a lot of great footage and great music however the show is as much about Canadians as it is about the train.  Great interviews along the way with passengers, train crew, and just folk that live along the rails.  Definitely worth watching.

The new plastic bills have a very different feel to them compared to the older paper money. And they don't wrinkle nearly as easily.

They tend to stick together so you have to be careful counting them out.

They are supposed to last a lot longer though, and they are supposed to be quite difficult to counterfeit. But I am sure someone will figure out a way........
