What with the recent release of our 4th O-Scale kit of the year, (and the upcoming Worchester, Ma. O-Scale show as well)... we are thinking about developing an engine house in "O".... the question is... do we do "O" or "On30"... or Hi-Rail scale...????  these are not the same and a one-size-fits-all kit would never be up to our standards.... even at that... are we talking smaller or larger motive power for the average layout ?  This stuff can be confusing and doesn't make it any easier to come up with something... oh yes... how many stalls ?... it would have to fit onto the average layout or diorama !  Last, (and perhaps first of all)... do you guys even need another engine house in the first place ?  Uyyy.

All great questions, Art. Admittedly, though there's no question that BarMills would do an outstanding job on an engine house, there are a number of good engine houses out there in all those scales. Then there's the question of wood vs. brick. If it's decided there are two many entries out there and you are still looking for ideas, perhaps a set of rundown tenement buildings would be considered. They are plentiful in HO scale but not much in O or On30. Whatever you decide, I'm sure you'll do a first rate job.

If you're referring to something like "Tenement Row" by Northeastern I already did those... from the naming of them to their introduction to the Northeastern people (at the time) that was a kit that I helped to develop (based on Earl Smallshaws work) before I started Bar Mills.  The photos used for advertising "Tenement Row" were done by me, they were models I had prototyped.  Model Tech did his usual 3rd rate job at his own version of them (I believe in O-Scale).... I actually have a version of them I did for myself that I should consider releasing.

Yes, those are the ones, Art. I always thought Earl's work on those was really terrific and I'm sure what you did was right up there. Would be pretty unique for O scale. As far as the version you did for yourself and should consider releasing, I'll second that. Sounds right up your "rundown" alley with all the details and clutter that Barmills is so well known for.

I just kitbashed a Korber building into a three stall engine house, but I wanted a stone

one, two stall would have done, looked at several ads for kits, some in On30/On3 that are hardly big enough for 0-4-0T's in full size O.  Looked at the Como roundhouse and it is also tiny, too small for full size engines.  I wanted something rustic, that wasn't just a roofed rectangle, maybe with interesting smokevents or trim.  Most of the ones offered are for tiny engines, nothing you can get the WBB 10 wheeler or a Mikado in

without severe kitbashing.  Some of the kits for On30 aren't much bigger than garages.
