Hi all, I am thinking about branching out into a new segment of the hobby. I have always had American pattern trains, german pattern trains, swiss pattern trains. However, I have nevered had any British pattern tin running. I remember seeing some beautiful styled, colorful British locos and rolling stock with some equally styled names like Prince of this, Duke of that. You get the idea. I would like to start getting into collecting British tin. One little obstacle; I have no idea what I am talking about. Can anyone give me a primer in British tin plate, brands, eras, gauges, scales, history, etc would be greatly appreciated. My collecting of tin plate has been mostly pre-war American and German, Standard and 1 gauge respectively but I am open to new ideas. Resources and advice are greatly appreciated.

OK thanks, I ordered that book. Amazon says it should arrive between April 12 to May 1.
Fred, what an excellent recommendation, I love my copy of that little book! Frank, a big thumbs up from me for Freds recommendation, you won't go wrong starting with that book.
Cheers, Mark.
I would also add this as a good this as a great book for anyone new to British tinplate;
A great book in my opinion, and a bargain too!
Cheers, Mark.
You can also search on ebay and Google for Bassett-Lowke and Hornby template trains. Those are my favorite two UK brands.
