We stayed at Oliva’s Bridge street inn bed and breakfast in New Hope Pa , yesterday and today. Didn’t know the New Hope & Ivyland railroad was right outside our door. Lucky me 😃

Alex. Years ago I would visit my friends in Doylestown. I would go shopping and ride the railroad. Sometimes I would hit it when there was a train show at the firehouse.
Very Nice Alex!!!
Alex:
This brings back great memories! We moved from PA to CA about five years ago. Living about 15 minutes from New Hope was great! My grandson and I would go watch the trains run often. While waiting for the train to return, we would walk down the street to the Dunkin Donuts for a treat then return to the station when the train arrived back from it's run. Thanks for posting!
Nice pics, nice day. I was just there a few days ago myself to celebrate my birthday; always an enjoyable outing. Of course we are focused on the trains, but how was the B&B?
Ross Rowland is an Engineer on this railroad.
Some things we take for granted. Living only about 45 minutes away from New Hope you'd think I would return often. Especially with the Black River & Western Railroad just across the river, alittle bit north of Lambertville. We've ridden the NH&ILRR and have visited the BR&WRR, but haven't taken a ride on it.
Looks like you had a great time. Thanks for posting.
Great that you got a surprise Alex. I'm just about 20 minutes or so away. BR&W is just minutes away from me. I have yet to get on the NH&I sometime in the near future. I have to figure out my schedule this year for where I need to be and when then I can fill in the dates.
WOW what great pictures. I didn't know the NH&IL was actually running excursions. We lived outside Doylestown on Almshouse Rd between 87-94 and I worked at the Naval Air Development Center on the corner of Street Road in Warminster. I crossed the tracks every day on the way to work and home but can't recall ever seeing a train, certainly not steam. However the area was great as a train collector as there were lots of train shows in the area.
Thanks for the pictures
Don
Excellent pictures Alex. Nothing seeing a real live steam locomotive. Weird looking truck (to me) on passenger car 870. I've never seen trucks like that before. Thanks for sharing.
Theresa and I went with my sister and her husband, and a friend and his wife. It's a beautiful area, but the ride was a bit pricey for how short it was. I didn't know they had a steam locomotive. We ate at the former station in Lambertville, and walked around town until it was time for our ride. It was a great day!
Nice photos, Alex. I grew up not far from there so this brings back many memories!

Hay Alex,
I caught the pics of your B&B show with NH&I R.R. which were great. I believe they may have changed their name to just New Hope R.R. Your pics & flics puts me back to the days that I was a fireman on #40 (Steam Loco) back 8 years ago. After turning 59, my body couldn't take that kind of physical work (shoveling) any longer and I guess one might say it was the "end of the line". Frank Vopasek or Brian Oxie or Mark Gratten may have been engineer that day and all 3 guy's are great engineers. Frank tells me that they have added another run around track to the line, so they manage to run 3 trains on the same line. I had a great time there and wished that there was more time to continue doing what I did. Thanks Alex for re-kindling some great memories of my passion!
Yes Rich, Ross is an engineer there, usually around Christmas he comes in. Firing for him makes for very "interesting" runs, don't ask me how I know this!

Hello all,
I'm very happy this brought back good memories and joy to you guys.
It really was great to be able to see this in person and enjoy it.
Thanks, Alex
A nice ride, have done both behind steam. NH&I, BR&W.
Cool Alex, you were almost in my neck of the woods. Nice pictures, looks like you had a good time.
Great stuff, a new addition for my to do list.
Know that RR well. At on time the line also ran north along the river and was a connection for local commu ities to Philadelphia via Doylestown. Now its just a nice scenic tourist train but great that its preserved.
The NH&I has offered longer rides like to Buckingham Valley, Warminster, and even Lansdale although mostly with diesel power. There were steam runs to Buckingham and Ivyland in the past. Yes, they are kind of expensive and the lot in New Hope charges to park. They now have rides out of Lansdale usually in August and last year they had rides from North Wales as well with 40 at the north end and SEPTA diesel at the south end. Apparently SEPTA is more receptive to hosting excursions than NS and Amtrak are now. NS and Amtrak are basically closed to chartered excursions now.
