My mother was a habitual visitor of garage sales, flea markets and antique stores. She had a good eye for stuff and picked up lots of valuable stuff, some by accident (buying a painting for the frame only to discover that the painting was by a famous western artist and worth hundreds). She was always on the lookout for railroad stuff for me. Among the things found and sent across the country were a couple of dining car menus. Since she passed away, my sister has assumed this responsibility. She recently sent me a gem; a menu from the Portland Rose (we lived in the portland area and I am a big UP fan).

I had never solved how to display these as they are large and have stuff on both sides.  Finally kicked into action by the latest arrival, I went to a local framing place and we decided on back to back frames so that the frames could be displayed with either side out. I hung them so that reversing them would not be a big deal and put them on one of the walls on the stairway up to the train room.  I have menus from the Western Star, Portland Rose, City of Portland and City of Los Angeles.

thanks.  took a while to come up with that idea.  had to overcome the odd spacing of the hanger loops in the frames, too.  impossible to line up with the studs, so i put a 1x2 along the bottom of the shelf and put the hooks in there.  using the chain with S hooks at the end gives me the ability to easily flip the menu to the other side.
