Folks, up until now, the only images of the new LCCA Billboard we have seen have carried LCCA house ads.  Here is an image with a Postwar Lionel Insert.

As you can see, the new Billboard holder works great with Lionel or Lionel billboard sized ads.  Better yet, the billboard holder is truly double sided, which opens up some interesting scenic possibilities on your layout in terms of advertising displays.

The LCCA people have the details on how to order the new, made in the USA, billboards.

Except that the lower green border lattice work is showing which when in a #310 frame is hidden behind the lower front of the frame.  The reason they put the lattice work on the post-war signs was for displaying the sign on a layout without a frame.

I think an MPC or more modern Lionel billboard sign which is the same overall size but doesn’t have the lattice work would look better as the sign itself would fill up the entire billboard opening without any lattice work showing.

I would tend to agree with you about the lattice work.

I have two of the Zerex signs and I put one in a Postwar 310 holder and placed it side by side with the new LCCA billboard.  They both looked great, but I realized I could put a larger image in the same size space if it did not have the lattice work.

That gives us more flexibility in what we can place in the new LCCA billboard. Another plus for the new billboard.

Now,who is going to be the first person to figure out how to light one?

Hi Ed:

Attached below is what I had in mind: an early MPC Billboard sign with a Lionel Ad.  Note that the overall card is the same size as the post-war sign next to it but it doesn’t have the lattice work.  Therefore the sign image is taller and would likely fill up mostly all of the billboard sign opening.

Regarding lighting, there are very small LED’s on the market but I don’t know if they could be inserted into those "light fixtures” on the top of the LCCA billboard.

Ed,

The LCCA has a design and mock up for a lighted version.  We will need to get pricing for it.
