When I spin the red jog wheel/speed wheel slowly, power comes up on the zw-l fine.  If I spin it fast clockwise, the power appears to bounce up and back down to zero when I look at the meter displayed.  I can also make the power display go to zero by spinning the wheel fast in the clockwise direction after it is already up at max power.

I did notice when I was programming names for switches when I scrolled through the letters, if I went fast, it would go back letters in the alphabet instead of forward.  Does not seem normal.  Thought I would ask here to see if this is something people have seen before.  If so, can I fix it myself?

I read the manual. I also key word searched the PDF manual for anything related to accelerator wheel.  I Did not see anything that sounded like what I was experiencing.  I just sent an email to Lionel to see if they feel this is normal behavior or not.  If not, hopefully they will have suggestions for how to resolve the issue without sending it in for repair.

In a perfect world sure Lionel would pay shipping both ways for everyone. Put then again in a perfect world nothing would ever break.

The reality is customer pay one way and the vendor pay for return is fairly common. Right now I have an $1000 internet device with a bad power supply sitting on my desk waiting for UPS. Even though we are the USAF and it's part of a $200,000 purchase and is still under warranty,  we are still paying for shipping to the manufacturer and they are covering the return.

So actually Lionel is giving a getter to vets than a defense contractor is giving to the Air Force

Just being devil's advocate...

But what if Lionel discovers it's operator error.  Then what?

Don't get me wrong, Something that is truly defective IMO should be free shipping in and out but unfortunately how do you determine where the failure happened in the chain.  I imagine some are obvious but if the shipping folks were Samsonite-ing you Legacy system before it got to you...

Again though I wish manufacturers would cover it both ways but it is what it is.

I have no problem paying for shipping back to manufacturers when the product works when it arrives.  I just sent hard drives back to a manufacturer that had all failed at different times in the course of their 3 year warranty.  I actually paid extra for advanced replacements with prepaid shipping labels.  For all I know, this could be the original problem that was supposedly fixed.  I am guessing I will never know.  If I have to pay to ship it back, I will.  I sent an email to the original place of purchase to see if they could swap out the device and pay for shipping back.

I do not mind paying for shipping to send products back to Lionel for repair.... they have been MORE then accommodating to me, i have to say....they stand behind their products 100%

I have two winning stories about Lionel Customer Service.

#1- My Vision Line Challenger.  I bought it second hand off someone on the forums here, as we all know this invalidates the Warranty since i am not the original owner/don't have a receipt from a lionel dealer.  It arrived to me with the Whistle Steam non functional, Physical Whistle Broken off (glue residue to show someone attempted to fix it), and after about 4 hours of running it stopped taking legacy commands, and would only surge quickly in forward then stop again under conventional.  I contacted Lionel, they explained it would be a charge repair since i was not in warranty, i agreed because i didn't want a Vision Line paerweight..... I shipped it to them, they had it shipped back to me within a week and a half, completely fixed, good as new....with absolutely no charge other then my shipping to them.

#2  Pensylvania Scale Legacy Mikado-  Sent it to them because it was not taking programming, would only respond to "Engine 1" and the smoke unit had failed.  They sent it back, it took it's engine number just fine, but smoke still did not work. this was right as they were moving to NC from OH.  I waited until the move was complete, and just recently emailed them... they apologized and sent me a prepaid UPS shipping label to return it since they did not repair it completely the first time.

Again, nothing but good things to say!!!!
