Well, whether or not it is based upon previous editions I can't say. But I received my Dash-9 today, and it is beautiful. The detail is great, the paintwork looks beautiful, it runs and smokes brilliantly, and it sounds fantastic.

I am 100% happy with mine. The picture in the catalogue does not do it justice at all.

Hi Nicole.  Can you please post a pic, if possible showing the truck detail up-close?

Also, can you measure the length without couplers and post it?

Hi Martin,

I'll try and do some photo's tomorrow. I only got back from holiday last night, and I'm still unpacking at the moment. But i had to go and collect my goodies from the post office, and then try them out.

I received the NS SD40-2 as well, and that is also better than I expected.

Almost pulled the trigger on the UP model, but then noticed some details missing on the model.  I then went back and looked at the older TMCC releases and was somewhat shocked to see that these "Legacy" models really didn't evolve detail wise.  With MTH you really know what you are buying in terms of model detail when it comes to Imperial Scale, Railking or Premier.  With the Lionel releases....while receiving the Legacy electronics, I would expect a retooling of the model to provide extra detail.   In some cases it appears this is not happening.  Pity.

I picked up the NS #9322 version on Tuesday. Detail is better than what I expected. The sound is great in fact much louder than the NS Tank Train legacy Dash-9 #9798 that is in the video but the main issue on the NS version is the headlight location. It should be overhead. Note that the tank train dash-9 has that correct headlight location for NS. It is correct for all othe road names. Overall it is a good solid ruuning locomotive. Good smoke unit output. Something I have notice on recent legacy sounds is an echo effect when you blow the horn. I noticed this on the dash-9 and my new PC Heritage sd70ace.

Mike I asked Lionel the same question. The answer was that there was a change in production. Since only the NS version has the headlighs configured on the top My guess they did it to cut cost. All in all it is a very nice model.   Originally Posted by mlavender480:
I can't understand why they didn't use the tooling for the correct headlight location on the NS version. It's not like they don't have it...
