New Lionel REA Vision Line Baggage car

My REA  VL Baggage car only has one diaphragm. A response I received on the other forum stated that the baggage car is an NYC prototype and this car only had a diaphragm on one end. Maybe so, but it doesn’t look right to me especially on an REA baggage car. I haven’t examined my baggage car closely yet but hopefully both ends of the baggage car are the same and I can order a second diaphragm from Lionel.

Maybe the New York Central, in their wisdom, did NOT want a diaphragm catching on/banging against, the rear of a steam locomotive tender. Thus, no diaphragm on the "locomotive end" of that car.

Apparently that is the reason. I’m going to try add a second diaphragm to it. “It just an’t fittin’ “ to only have one! 😮

I doubt the tender damage theory for a couple reasons, but mainly it seems that any of the NYC baggage cars that don't have a diaphragm have a large full width door in that end of the car.  There doesn't seem to be any conventional cars that just have the diaphragm deleted.

My new NYC vision baggage car is the same. I think it has to do with the car connecting with the tender. The fact that there is still a door is tbecause they started with a standard baggage car for this consist. I just hope the fantasy new Dreyfuss Hudson matches the colors of this car. Mine arrives in two weeks .i will post the results.
