I just purchase 3 new remote switches for my layout. installed them and when powered up only the lights work. They do not switch. I am I doing something wrong or are they just bad out of the box.

We need more info. Product number. Command control switch? How are they wired? etc.
Perhaps you should program them?
there are (2) - 6-12046 right hand switches (not command) and (1) - 6-12047 left hand switch remote/command. I did not need the command function, but it was the only left hand switch that was available at the time. I have no idea how they are wired.

Well if they are wired per the instructions, the only thing I can think of is whether the power jumper is missing to get power from the track. Page 8 of either manual.
Don't know if this helps. I had a problem with a couple of remote command switches. Sometimes they are stuck. I carefully manually turned the lantern to get the switch moving. Then they worked fine until I have not used them for a while. So I switched manually again. They are working fine now.
