For anyone that has experience installing new smoke units...
I just installed a new smoker (part #6108738250) into my Lionel 8632 (6108632001 - NEW YORK CENTRAL 4-4-2 Steam Loco). Earlier in the year my old unit stopped smoking. After the installation, I finally have smoke again. When I first fired it up, I smelt a slight plastic smell. I no longer smell that, so I am guessing that it was just because it was new. So my real question is regarding the temperature of the unit. I understand that there is a heating element in the smoker that produces the steam, but how hot do these elements usually get? For instance, I never really noticed this in the past (because I never set my finger on the bottom of the smoker after operation), but it was pretty hot to the touch. Is this normal? Again, I don't smell anything burning or see any signs of the plastic melting, but just wasn't sure if the unit should only be warm or if its normal for the plastic to be fairly hot.
