Well, I ordered a bunch of Lionscale UP offset hoppers and they just showed up!

They came out great looking and great colors, nice strong Armor Yellow lettering...  as a UP guy, i ordered several 6 car sets to build some epic coal trains!  I like the two different decorated sides...

The real cool thing is these new hoppers came with the all new trucks without thumbtack uncouplers.  They operate like the original scale trucks with the sliding tab, but they are a different design based on the unsprung lionscale trucks.

These are a real nice upgrade...  here are pics of the UP's and the NYC's & NKP's...  they also had the new trucks...

Thanks for posting - enjoy these great looking cars!

The upgraded trucks will be a game changer for those of us that stopped buying Lionel cars because of the (now old) thumbtack couplers.

Hey Stang...  i dont know the extent of deployment of these new trucks...  i also got new 50ft double door box cars and they still have the thumbtacks...  so it may be just starting to get the new trucks out there...

Lionel did say they were going back to thumbtackless trucks...

I do have alot of extra scale lionel trucks, and all my good scale cars get the good old trucks put on them...

Yes they are flat 'scale' angle wheels.  Around 2004 lionel went back to flat angle wheels in the scale trucks...  i only look for extra trucks with the flat angle for better scale appearance.

I think these are same height as the previous lionscale, but i did not compare.  I will do that tonite...

We are probably overdue for a 'bring back super o' post...  but its beating a dead horse...

The new trucks look good.  The Question I have - How easily does the knuckle portion come off these new trucks for those of us that install Kadees on our cars?  I hated to take the Dermel and hack up the previous style trucks.

Probably same deal, need to cut off the coupler, but now there is more to cut...

The new couplers can still be removed with a screw like the thumbtack version if you want to swap out for a Kadee.  Dave did a good job on these! Overseas production will start switching to the new style with all cars in 2019 C2 - depending on their stock of the old trucks, it is possible that some cars from C1 cataloged with the thumbtacks may deliver with the hidden tabs. Trucks are built and assembled months before the cars however, so I can't promise where the changeover may occur. (But definitely all cars cataloged from here forward with this feature will have it.)  All LionScale cars not yet shipped will also have this truck going forward.

Enjoy!
